When Luvinthemommyhood announced it would be hosting a cowl KAL, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use up the leftover cream Malabrigo Worsted in my stash. Finally I would be making a (small) dent in my stash. I was convinced that I had enough yarn to make the Thermis Cowl, but I was off by 10 rows. 10 ROWS!!! In a huff, I grabbed the baby and we went to the LYS to grab more Malabrigo. To take the sting off, I also got an Addis Turbo US7 cable needle to finish the project. I had been using 5 dpns, which were a bit unweildy and too ridiculous to be excused by baby brain. Besides, my other Addis Turbo US7 cable needle had suffered a mysterious accident that rendered one of the tips like this (why haven't I thrown this out yet? full disclosure: I just packed it. why can't I quit you?).
I think I now have the same amount of cream Malabrigo I started with.
Stash 1, me 0.
At least the cowl is finished. I was hoping that the photo below would be a filler photo until I had a chance to pull out the nice camera, but the opportunity hasn't yet presented itself. I'm sure I'll be wearing it plenty in two weeks and that it may make it into the background of one of the photos someone will take of the baby.
I was also thwarted in my attempt to finish the Deliah and Daphne montsters. My trip to Michael's to procure eyes and white felt was completely unsuccessful. Sure there was white felt, but it wasn't opaque. It was a sort of eco brand, and was transparent in some places. It was also really stiff and I couldn't imagine my niece snuggling up against it. There was also the option to get the felt with an adhesive peel-and-stick back. Not what I had in mind. Michael's also didn't have toy eyes. Luckily, there was Etsy to the rescue. Well, almost. I ordered some gorgeous merino felt (really too nice to use for a monster mouth. I think I was compensating for the gross felt at Michael's) and some toy eyes from Japan. Naturally, the toy eyes did not arrive by the time I had to send the parcel out to my niece. I bit the bullet and sewed on some black buttons I fished out of a bin at Common Thread in Encinitas. Not the fancy, professional face I had imagined, but really darling in the end anyway. TOO BAD I DIDN'T REMEMBER TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE FINISHED MONSTERS! I am still kicking myself. They were so cute once the faces were finished that my husband couldn't believe I was giving them away and not saving them for my son. I guess I will just have to make another set (in spud and chloe sweater rootbeer and waterslide...I am already planning it out).
I will take a picture of Dahlia playing with them. She quite enjoys taking the baby out and putting it back in.
